Alastair Wilson, the Director of the Photonics KTN, is leading a UK mission to China, which is fully supported by UK Trade and Investment.

The UK Mission will be in China between 3–10 September 2008, during which its members will have the opportunity to present on their individual areas of company expertise, meet with appropriate Chinese-based companies and, importantly, the chance to secure high-level contacts within the Chinese international trade and government.

The mission will include a visit to the Chongqing Xi region and to the China International Optoelectronics Exposition, CIOE, which takes place in Shenzhen, between 6-9 September. This is an important exhibition with more than 2000 exhibitors and 85,000 visitors expected, both from industry sectors including optical communications, laser technology, optics, LED lighting and displays, infrared applications, optical sensor and measurement technologies and imaging.

China, with its photonics component diversity and rapid growth in new ventures, offers opportunities for UK companies to develop markets, explore partnerships, create robust supply chain and enhance their global ambitions. At the same time, China is acquiring technology and the UK is a strong trading partner with expertise in the vertical supply chain from materials to systems use and to extend over telecoms, medical, industrial, consumer and other applications markets including displays, data storage, specialist lasers as well as optical fibre, components and complete optical equipment.
